Reigniting The Workout

When this small-town college wanted to update its rec space to keep with the modern needs of their students, they turned to Freemotion.

“The addition of Freemotion to our Student Activity Center has been a great move for us. The equipment has been instrumental in returning our great sense of pride in the facility.”

BACKGROUND

Lake Superior State University (LSSU) is a personal, small-town school that provides a superior blend of liberal and technical studies in the natural setting on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The school’s wide array of undergraduate degrees in more than 45 areas of study pull in students from every county in Michigan and from nine nations. And while the university has changed with the times since its inception over 70 years ago, the recreational center remained unchanged for years, unable to ignite motivation for students.

CHALLENGE

Having a healthy student population is just as important to LSSU leadership as having a well-rounded education. Because the rec center hadn’t been updated in years, the university leadership wanted to have solid fitness pieces as well as key machines that would encourage students to push themselves towards better lifestyle choices. In addition to modern fitness machines, LSSU wanted to kickstart group and personal training to deepen the university’s recreational offering to incoming and established students.

BUSINESS IMPACT

Because LSSU wanted to maximize their square footage, they chose Freemotion machines that do more than one thing, and in some cases, allow more than one user. The Freemotion Dual Cable Cross and FitRig opened up new possibilities for the LSSU rec center; where students could train together in circuit groups and strength training classes.

“The addition of Freemotion to our Student Activity Center has been a great move for us,” said Dr. Eric Statt, Chair of the School of Kinesiology. “The equipment has been instrumental in returning our great sense of pride in the facility. The students have all raved about the changes especially the addition of the Dual Cable Cross and the Incline Trainers.” Dr. Statt went on to say that the Freemotion FitRig has also been well received, allowing for multiple users and uses at once with “tons” of flexibility.

“I can’t say enough about the service [I received from our Freemotion Rep] Steve Koski and Wayne Steigelman. They worked with us through all phases of planning and installation. The follow up has been just as solid. We couldn’t be happier.”
